The University of Tourism and Foreign Languages in Warsaw (WSTiJO) was established in 2003 by decision of the Minister of National Education and Sport. In 2023, it celebrates its 20th anniversary. This is an important event for both the Chancellor-Founder Jadwiga Barbara Moroz, as well as for the faculty and administrative staff of the University.
The University was established based on the experiences gained during the operation of the Post-secondary School of Tourism, Foreign Languages, and Management, which functioned from 1995 as a public school.
From 2003-2013, the University began to collaborate with a number of international partners, allowing students to participate in foreign exchange programs and gain professional experience. In cooperation with foreign partners, such as Carnegie College in Scotland and the Goethe Institut in Ankara, the University organized numerous seminars, conferences, and workshops.
In the following years, WSTiJO continued to develop its educational offer, introducing new fields of study and expanding the range of language courses. The school gained more recognition among employers, which contributed to the increasing number of graduates finding employment in the tourism, translation, and other professions requiring knowledge of foreign languages.
As the University developed, the need for expansion of infrastructure became apparent. Thanks to many efforts, the University purchased a large building for educational purposes on Prymasa Tysiąclecia Avenue and the White Palace in Palczewo, which became the University’s scientific and conference center.
One of the advantages of the University is a highly qualified scientific and teaching staff, composed of recognized lecturers, authors of academic textbooks and scientific articles published both domestically and abroad, as well as practitioners with many years of experience in the tourism and philological industry. The scientific activity of the university staff is reflected in the “Tourism and Recreation” scientific notebooks and monographs, regularly published since 2008. The University also publishes the “Language and Literary Studies of Warsaw” annual, containing a review of articles devoted to various aspects of linguistics, literary studies, and cultural studies.
The University organizes study and integration trips and actively participates in tourism fairs (both domestic and foreign), allowing students to acquire practical knowledge and skills necessary in tourism. To broaden students’ knowledge and develop their passions, numerous circles of interest in geography, tourism, and the English language are run at the University.
The 20th anniversary of the University is an excellent opportunity to sum up the achievements to date, but also to look to the future. WSTiJO plans to further expand its educational offer with new study fields and introduce research programs, responding to the current needs of the labor market and students’ interests. Cooperation with other universities, scientific institutions, and international organizations will be strengthened, allowing for the exchange of knowledge, experience, and practices from different parts of the world.
Also, the University’s extracurricular activity will be developed to promote a healthy lifestyle, culture, and integration of the academic community. WSTiJO plans to organize numerous conferences, workshops, contests, which will be an opportunity for meetings, exchange of ideas, and presenting the achievements of students and university staff.
In order to ensure the quality of education, WSTiJO continuously invests in the development of the scientific and teaching staff, supporting scientific internships, training, and participation in international conferences. In this way, the University strives to create an environment conducive to innovation, creativity, and constant broadening of horizons.
In summary, the 20th anniversary of the University of Tourism and Foreign Languages in Warsaw is a time when the academic community celebrates its achievements so far and looks optimistically into the future, constantly striving to make the University an even better place to learn and develop for future generations of students.”
