A graduate in agricultural economics from the Warsaw University of Life Sciences and in bank management from the SGH Warsaw School of Economics, he obtained his doctorate in 1995 and his habilitation in 2006. He became associate professor in 2010, titular professor of economic sciences on 19 December 2014, and full professor four years later.
In his academic work he specializes in economics, finance and commercial and cooperative banking. He has authored or co-authored more than 200 publications, including 19 books. To date, he has lectured on topics including banking (in Polish and English), management of credit institutions, corporate finance, risk management, market research, microeconomics, macroeconomics, financial policy, managerial accounting, etc. He was head of the postgraduate programme „Cooperative Bank Management” and of a full-time doctoral programme.
He has collaborated with local government, government, cooperative and corporate administrations, banks and the European Parliament, and was a consultant to FAO (2010-2014). He has completed internships in the USA, where he cooperated with the University of Arkansas on bank lending to farms and small and medium-sized enterprises in rural areas. He has also been on a research internship in Finland, where he lectured to and advised doctoral students at the University of Vaasa and dealt with issues related to funding for research and innovation in the economy.
So far he has mentored eight doctoral candidates and four more dissertations under his direction are in preparation. In addition, he has been the supervisor of more than 200 master’s and bachelor’s theses, a reviewer of doctoral and postdoctoral theses, and chairman of a committee for the award of the title of professor. He is an educator of several generations of students and a friend of doctoral candidates and academics.
